Fee structure &
what to expect in a consult
Our session will provide you clarity about your unique breastfeeding situation and provide tools and strategies to help resolve concerns. During this time I may do a full examination & history of the mother, the baby & breastfeeding. This provides me with the information needed about the factors that can impact breastfeeding so it can all be taken into consideration. We will try to discover what may have contributed to your breastfeeding concern.
I assist as needed, provide suggestions to help improve feeding while I observe, provide a summary of my assessment and action a breastfeeding success plan. I make any referrals to others as needed with an explanation of the benefits & objective of the referrals.
During our time together we will discuss you and your baby’s history to understand where we are starting from, and to help us understand your unique goals. Initial visits are longer than follow-ups, as we need to gather a history to help you. We save time by having you fill out a thorough intake form online. This saves us time and you money if you can do this ahead of time and provide as much information as possible.
Ideally, I will get to observe feeding or the behaviour in question, to assess causes for your concerns.
I will arrive within 30 minutes of our scheduled appointment time for home visits.
Arrival time depends a lot on driving conditions and the time of day, distance I have to travel from a consult previous to your scheduled time, traffic and duration of the previous visit. Working with new babies can be unpredictable at the best of times. Thank you for your patience with your approximate appointment time.
Consultations typically last 90-180 minutes, and are charged based on our time together. An initial visit starts at $197 for up to 2 hours, which is what you are booking in for. With that said, some visits take more time depending on complexity and circumstances. Visits lasting longer than 2 hours will be charged by the quarter hour ($15/15min). For example, you can expect $197 for a 2 hour visit or up to $227 for a 2.5 hr visit. Average initial visits are a 2 hour time frame, so you know what to expect.
Follow up appointments are similar. They are $137 for the first 60 minutes and billed in the quarter hour beyond ($152 for 1 hour and 15 minutes, $167 for 1.5 hours, $197 for 2 hours)
Please be open with me about any financial or time constraints in advance to help prioritize our visit. We can keep to less time if needed, by only working on the most pressing challenges. Additional questions and concerns that require added time, will add billable hours to the consult. If this is a concern, we can discuss payment plans.
VIRTUAL VISITS
Virtual Visits typically start within 10-20 minutes of your scheduled time. I will try to email you if I will be later than our scheduled start time.
Do have anything that you typically use to feed your baby readily available - pillows, bottles, extra milk, etc
If possible it is great to have a support person available to move the camera around.
During all visits we will discuss timing of a follow up appointment if appropriate. This is based upon your breastfeeding goals.
Texts and emails following a consult: All of your questions and concerns can be addressed in a booked appointment. Please keep a list of questions you want answered, so you don’t forget them! Usually clients find the answers are already provided throughout the consult, but occasionally there is something more unique. You are welcome to contact me to clarify information from our visit. The intent of this communication is clarify any parts of our care plan or to provide me with additional follow up information so I can make sure the care plan is still the best relevant plan or if it needs adaptations with new information (example would be a new weight on baby or feedback from a practitioner I have referred you to). I cannot answer questions about your care that we have not previously discussed.
Additional concerns and new questions: We can schedule an appointment or phone consultation if there is a new concern, or a new need such as a change of focus from your original concern. If your email/text/voicemail is outside of requiring clarity on something from our original plan, I will ask that you book a visit, or I will offer an email response ($10-20), phone/video call ($2.5/min) or another service for this information.
You can book 15- or 30- minute virtual calls as well as full visits, if you just need a quick chat.
These are a private fee ($2.5/min for virtual or phone, and $20/email response).
It has happened that a text, email or voicemail has gotten lost, accidentally deleted, or didn’t come through and it would never be my intention to not answer you! Please simply resend if you haven’t heard back in 48 hours.
And PLEASE check junk mail if you do not see a confirmation email, response to an email or a chat message. Often messaged are dumped in junk.
